Hang
with Laurie: Virtual Author Visit with Laurie Halse Anderson
Hang
with Laurie Halse Anderson in the Bookhenge on USDLC’s beautiful
Star Island for a conversation about her books, her writing, and
new projects. She’s just as cool virtually as actually.
Honored with
the 2009 recipient of the American Library Association’s
Margaret A. Edwards Award for Writing Literature for Young Adults,
Laurie’s first novel SPEAK was named a Printz
Honor Book and has become a contemporary classic in the high school
English curriculum.
Laurie’s prolific works include four other YA
novels (CATALYST,
PROM, TWISTED, and the 2009 WINTERGIRLS) and
well-respected historical fiction titles, FEVER 1793 and CHAINS.
And the list goes on with picture books and series books. Hear discussions
led by teachers and librarians on several titles archived at www.bookosphere.net
Laurie’s
fans of all ages are invited to participate. We’ll be talking
about high school books as well as those most frequently read by
elementary and middle school kids, so younger fans should plan on
watching with a parent.

SPEAK
by Laurie
Halse Anderson! SPEAK is the kind of book that comes but
once in a decade -- perhaps once in a lifetime when the right reader finds
it at the right time.
Celebrate the tenth-year anniversary of this certain-to-be-a classic
in young adult literature. Leading our discussion will
be Frances
Bradburn, Chair of the first-ever Printz Award Committee ten years ago
that selected SPEAK as an Honor Book, and Michael
Cook, a young teacher
who made the bold choice to teach with the book and struck gold.
The
Bookosphere Presents:
New Author Study with Laurie Halse Anderson! This
school year we’ll
study the books of Laurie Halse Anderson, winner of the American
Library Assoiciation’s
2009 Margaret A. Edwards Award for lifetime achievement in writing
for young adults . And we’ll cap off the study when we meet with Laurie on April
26th – online and inworld (live, interactive audio stream and in
Second Life).
Fever 1793, Laurie’s historical fiction title, will
be our first book.
